Your classes are full of students with different needs and interests. You have the Aspberger’s student who is an amazing guitar player. One of your ADHD students is the star of the soccer team. The chatty girl who sits in the third row is an artist and her friend is applying to an Ivy League school. Sitting toward the back of the room are students who look like they’ve given up on the school scene. They’re angry and defensive when you ask about their dirt bike race or garage band.
Your job is to teach all the students in the classroom, not just the easy ones. But how do you reach those students who are openly hostile to your efforts?
Inside the School’s seminar on CD Teaching Impulsive, Inattentive and Oppositional Students in the Differentiated Classroom gives teachers advice about how to help students with behavioral issues succeed, maintain fairness and effectively use consequences as a motivation tool.
