Motivating Unmotivated Students

Learn how to motivate and connect with even your most difficult students

CD/Transcript CoverTeaching is a two-way process. No matter how great a teacher you are, it doesn’t matter unless your students are actually showing up for class and being engaged in the material. You can’t help a student who’s not there. Therefore, one of the biggest challenges facing teachers is getting students motivated about school. Motivated students show up for school consistently and don’t have as high of a risk of dropping out all together.

The good news is that all students start out motivated. However, some become unmotivated along the way. They usually become unmotivated when they are struggling to get connected, hide their feelings of inadequacy, or feel in control.

You may think that student motivation is something that’s out of your control. That’s wrong — you CAN do something about it. In Dr. Allen Mendler’s online seminar Motivating Unmotivated Students he explains how to motivate and connect with even your most difficult students — and how to keep that connection healthy.

Not all unmotivated students skip class or drop out of school. But they do perform, achieve, and behave more poorly than their peers. It’s when they become sufficiently disengaged, when they are more likely to become problematic and eventually drop out of school. Your goal as a teacher should be to make sure your students do not reach that point, and eventually turn around on their downward path and become positively motivated students.

After viewing Motivating Unmotivated Students you’ll be equipped to:

  • Better address the unfulfilled needs that drive kids to be unmotivated
  • Discover can’t-miss strategies to motivate students every day
  • Ignite enthusiasm for learning
  • Employ strategies that get your students to put forth more effort
  • Rekindle the hope in alienated and resigned students
  • Keep yourself optimistic and enthusiastic.
